EXCLUSIVE: Marta Esteban's Impossible Films is making "A Gun in Each Hand," an adult comedy that presents eight portraits of men in their 40s, all with identity crises, to be helmed by Catalan auteur Cesc Gay ("Fiction," "VOS")."I've highlighted what audiences will find most comic or pathetic," helmer-scriptwriter Gay said. "It's a wry, sometimes cruel comedy, but full of tenderness and emotions."Pic will unspool like a puzzle, shot in real time and focus on acting and dialogue, the director said. Gay has shown a sharp eye in the past for intimate portraits of ordinary people.Budget is about E2.2 million ($3.1 million). Catalan producer Esteban ("Mediterranean Diet," "Land and Freedom") is considering a new distribution strategy, making 'Gun,' available online worldwide," she said."If consumers change their habits, we have to as well," she said.Spanish pubcaster TVE has snagged free-to-air broadcast rights. Catalan pubcaster TVC is also backing "Gun," Esteban said.Gay is also working on the pre-production of a feature toon, "La maquina del mon," a departure for the helmer. Produced by Barcelona-based Cromosoma "Maquina" is inspired by hit TV series "The Triplets."Gay took the Cannes youth jury prize in 2002 with "Krampack," a sardonic right-of-passage pic that enjoyed niche distribution in the U.S."Gun" will initiate principle photography in October and is skedded for delivery in the first half of 2012.
