Jones says Evans backed down from fighting him at UFC 140

Please just fight! The Jon Jones-Rashad Evans fight build up goes on and on and on, with no end in site.

If you missed it yesterday, Dana White announced that Jones would defend his 205-pound title against Lyoto Machida, not Evans as previously expected. Then Evans said he was fine with the decision because there wasn't enough time before Dec. 10 for his injured thumb to heal. Now Jones is spinning it that Evans went back on his agreement to fight at UFC 140.

"I think it was a fight that was originally offered to Rashad and Rashad decided to turn the fight down, saying that he wasn't ready to take the fight," Jones told Canada's Sportsnet. "The UFC called me and offered me the fight and I jumped all over the opportunity to get rid of Rashad for good."

Jones was accused by the Evans' side of bailing on a meeting at UFC 133. Now Jones is accusing Evans of doing the same for UFC 140.

"I took the fight, signed the contract and Rashad went back on the offer and take more time off," said Jones.

Meanwhile, Machida is signed, seal and delivered. That means Toronto gets a super main event. The Brazilian said he found about the fight in an unusual manner.

"I was at a birthday party last night and I heard I'd be fighting Jon Jones. I accepted immediately, I couldn't announce it at the time, though," Machida told Tatame.? "It's hard, he's very versatile and knows a lot of techniques, but we play a similar game. He kicks, I kick, he punches and goes to the ground, I can defend myself and take him down too. Stamina and game plan are things that could define this bout's outcome. Nobody is invincible. We're training for the best, looking for enlarging our body and mind and that's what I'm gonna do."
